The upcoming Coronation Weekend provides us with the opportunity to celebrate this milestone in our communities through the Big Help Out on Monday, May 8^th.

Friends of the Hurtwood is participating in two different ways and would welcome your attendance and support.

1. The Big Help Out event at Shere Recreation Ground (GU5 9HE) from 12 – 2 pm on the Bank Holiday Monday will include many activities, organisations plus food and drink. Friends of the Hurtwood will have a stall and welcomes visits from members, local residents and visitors.  Directors will be staffing the stall and engaging with all visitors.   Come and visit us!

2. If you’re feeling energetic and want to help out in the actual Hurtwood, a “Green and Clean” initiative is taking place between 2 – 4 pm where litter is collected to improve the look of the specified areas. Volunteers will be provided with a high visibility vest, rubbish bags, disposable gloves and upon completing a clearing session, refreshments – drinks and biscuits!

We plan to organise from the Walking Bottom car park (GU5 9QW) and send volunteers to various sites around the area.  We welcome everyone – families with children, folks on their own, people wanting to make a difference.  It would help if you bring your own litter picker instrument if you have one.   Please let us know if you plan to come by emailing [email protected] – or simply turn up at Walking Bottom on Monday, May 8^th between 2 – 4 pm.  Let’s return some of our car parks and roadsides to a “Green and Clean” state!
